The SSS celebrates six things that have gone well, or at least okay, in the past week. It is the creation of Terry Egan, who is all things wonderful.

  1. Last Saturday, I ran a group trip to see Charlton Athletic. And everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, I didn’t lose any of them, and Charlton even scraped a draw! I’m calling that a win.
  2. Yesterday, I managed to write a complete short story. Not for publication, but it was nice to get something finished. I seem to be working on big projects at the moment and never finishing anything, so that was good.
  3. I also passed having written 50,000 words so far this year. Again, many aren’t publication-worthy, but it’s all good practise.
  4. In the latest copy of Jane Austen’s Regency World magazine, there is a letter dedicated to talking about how well I write 🙂 I won’t quote the whole thing because I’m not quite that boastful, but let’s just say that it begins: “Your magazine serves as a constant source of inspiration to creative writing students at the college where I teach. In particular Penelope Friday is possessed of admirable technique.” So, that is rather flattering, if I do say so myself! I like the thought of being used to teach creative writing.
  5. Our sitting room is tidier than it has been for many a year after the organiser we’ve been employing came for her last session and helped out in here. There’s a way to go, but we’re getting there.
  6. I’m on to the second edits of One Plus One  and we’re looking at probably a late July/early August publication date for the novel. Really excited about that!

  1. I’ve arranged to write another article for Jane Austen’s Regency World magazine, which is exciting. I’m looking forward to researching the different branches of Christianity and the different treatment afforded to them.
  2. Very proud of Lovely Partner this week, who passed his written exams for becoming a fencing referee. (Both epee and foil.)
  3. Also proud of Splendid Son for doing a fantastic job sorting out his bedroom in epic fashion this Monday.
  4. I set myself a writing target for the month and I’ve already met it, which is quite pleasing. Not all that much is publishable, but keeping writing is always useful practice.
  5. I started knitting something again this week for the first time in a while. I’ve not had the energy, and I still struggle to do it for very long, but it’s nice to be doing it again.
  6. I’m not doing brilliantly healthwise at the moment, but my family are being so kind and helpful. I don’t know how I’d manage without them, and I appreciate them so much.

Hmm, it has been a very quiet week this week, so I may have trouble thinking of anything particularly good which has happened.

  1. It is currently snowing. Not enough to make the world properly white, but it’s still quite pleasing.
  2. I have started writing in a safe space about stories I’ve enjoyed recently. This is difficult for me because I don’t like sharing my taste in things because I presume that everyone is going to tell me what awful taste I have and what a terrible person I am for liking [x] or [y]. So this is a cautious way of trying to get over that.
  3. I had a hair cut this week 🙂 I’ve wanted one literally for months but haven’t been able to get to the hairdresser (the one time I managed, the queue was too long for it to be feasible). So my mum came over and cut it for me! Yay.
  4. I got a little bit of writing done this week. Not vast quantities, but it’s nice to keep things going.
  5. Sports results went well this week. This is always cheering for me.
  6. Um um um…. it’s not that particularly awful things have happened this week, just I’ve spent most of it in bed and it doesn’t give much room for excitement, quite honestly. (Shut up, all ye with dirty minds. I’m not going to be telling you about that, either way.) Okay, I ordered something online and it arrived much earlier than I anticipated, which is highly convenient and may well save me money. Yay.

  1. I’m thrilled to say that the Prequel to my novel Love Plus One, the aptly titled (I think, anyway!) One Plus One has officially been accepted by Ninestar Press. If you want to know the back story of how Laurie and James got together, and more about James’s and Al’s friendship, this is the story you need to read. (And if you don’t, why not?)
  2. I’m also terribly excited because I’ve had my first You Tube review of a story. Love Plus One was reviewed here and it is the best thing ever 🙂
  3. In news not to do with the Maths series (that’s the series name of the two books mentioned above), I managed to send off a horrible government form this week. I’m horribly disabled, and had to fill in details about everything I can’t do, which is probably one of the most depressing things to do in the world. But it is done, finished, posted. Hurrah.
  4. Today, I not only Managed To Leave The House (this doesn’t happen often), but I got to the football. We didn’t win (boo) but we didn’t lose either, despite TERRIBLE refereeing, which is of course entirely to blame!
  5. I managed to write nearly 24,000 words in January, despite everything. Most of them aren’t intended for publication, but I’ve started a new story in the Maths series (sorry, we’re back to that again) and potentially an entirely new novella/novel. It’s using a trope usually only seen in fanfiction – Omegaverse – but I don’t see why there shouldn’t be room to explore it with original characters and plot. (If you can see why, please let me know, as it would be useful information!)
  6. Lovely Partner and I celebrated (a little distractedly, as both of us had forgotten about it) our 14th Wedding Anniversary this week. Ironically, it is the elephant anniversary, which is pleasingly humorous – these elephants did, in fact, forget 😉

  1. I got my copies of Love Plus One this week, which is really exciting! Books in print. (It is also officially available as a paperback on the UK Amazon site as well as on the US one.)
  2. I also received a copy of the book I edited, Capri in July, this week.It is utterly beautiful, and the author, Barry Pugh, is an amazing photographer.
  3. Splendid Son was singing in the O2 arena this week as part of the Young Voices choir. I couldn’t go (for boring health reasons), but Lovely Partner and my mother went, and apparently it was amazing. I’m very proud of him.
  4. I’ve done both some writing and some beta-reading this week, which has been good. Nothing wildly productive, but it’s good to keep my hand in.
  5. I had a bit of a bad day, mentally, earlier in the week, but chatting to a couple of good friends on the phone really helped. I’m lucky to have such great people around me.
  6. I am really enjoying my new sofabed, which means that I can lie down and basically be ‘in bed’ downstairs, thus spending more time with the family. Hurrah for practical solutions.

  1. So, I missed writing last week, so I might not have pointed out my latest article on Harry Potter trivia to all and sundry. Yay? Yay.
  2. I’ve also done a little bit of writing after a couple of weeks of blankness. Not much, but it’s an improvement on nothing, and I’ll take that!
  3. Ooh, I had my hair cut on Monday (not as short as I intended, but the hairdresser had ideas of his own, and I do as I’m told), and then managed to dye it blue (intentionally!) so I am cheered up by the way that is looking.
  4. I had a nice, albeit quiet, Samhain celebration with Splendid Son. Happy Celtic New Year, folks!
  5. I dabble in fanfiction occasionally, and someone asked permission to translate something I wrote into Russian, which is very flattering.
  6. Last Saturday, I watched Charlton Athletic win against Chesterfield (football). It was the first time this season that Splendid Son and I (we’re season ticket holders, though we can’t go every time) had seen a win, so it was splendid!

  1. I am looking forward to the release of my erotica antho All About The Boy on Monday, and have been celebrating by chatting with the most amazing and talented JL Merrow about kink and writing it (there’s a Rafflecopter giveaway, too, if you’re interested in trying to get your hands on a copy of it!).
  2. All About The Boy is coming out with Nine Star Press, and I’m so very very excited that they’ve just accepted my novel Love Plus One for publication at some point! Lots of editing to do first, of course (isn’t there always?!) but this novel was a total labour of love and I’m so happy that they like it.
  3. And talking of novels, have I mentioned the most amazing reviews that The Sisterhood has been getting? There’s this one at Good Reads, this one at Amazon and this one from Rainbow Book Reviews. So, I’m feeling really chuffed about that.
  4. Splendid Son’s summer holidays have started. No more fussing about school and uniform and ‘have you done your homework?’ for six weeks!
  5. And to get the holidays off to a good start, my sister and family are down at the moment, which means I get to spend some time with them, too, which is excellent.
  6. And I’m still writing the new story. It’s 15k now, so it seems to be going well 🙂

  1. I’ve started a new story! It’s going quite slowly at the moment, but it’s taking up quite a bit of my mind, which is always a good sign. Please cross your fingers that it works out for me – I’m always happiest when I’m working on something.
  2. The Sisterhood is up on UK Amazon as a Kindle release, though it’s not going to be officially released until 25th Jule, it seems. I’m not quite sure why that is, but at least that means there’s movement towards getting a UK release for the book, which has got to be a good thing!
  3. I also proof-read my story Something You Really Want for Xcite books. It’s due out in their Gay Romance anthology in August, which is very exciting. I love the characters in that particular story.
  4. I helped out at Splendid Son’s school fete yesterday, which whilst it has left me needing copious quantities of painkillers today and being unable to get out of bed, has also given me a pleasing sense of virtue. Which is something, right?
  5. And talking of Splendid Son, he has a music exam today, but Lovely Partner has taken the day off and will take him, which given the ‘unable to get out of bed’ thing is a great relief! Please to be sending good thoughts his way (SS’s, not LP’s!).
  6. Later today, I’m hoping to buy some coach tickets to go and visit some wonderful friends in the summer. It is great to have things to look forward to, and I appear to be going on holiday for three entire weeks during August!

  1. I got an acceptance of a story/possible short anthology this week, which is very exciting. Still working on the details so I can’t say more than that, but it’s lovely news.
  2. Meanwhile, the edits have come through for The Sisterhood so I’m going to be working manically on that for the next couple of weeks. It looks like there might be a publication date of June or thereabouts – I’ll keep you posted on that one!
  3. Although I’ve not been feeling at my brightest and best, I’ve managed to get quite a lot done without leaving bed for all that long. Which has a pleasing sense of achievement to it!
  4. I also finalised arrangements with a very good friend about her coming to visit at the end of next week (hurrah!) and confirmed with some other good friends that Splendid Son and I are hoping to visit them over the Easter holidays as well. I find People-in-general a bit terrifying as I’m somewhat socially awkward, but specific people (who know about my weirdnesses and make allowances) are a very different matter so I’m feeling quite bouncy!
  5. Oh, still ploughing on with my contemporary gay threesome story. I’m still not entirely sure how it’s going to pan out in terms of whether it wants to be a novel, a set of novellas, or something else entirely, but I’m just going with it at the moment and writing what seems to need to be written. I’ll worry about the details in due course, I’m sure. (But they’re lovely. I do love these characters particularly much. I don’t know why, but I do.)
  6. I braved visiting the doctor to talk about medication woes. The brief version is that I’m going to have to continue for another month with my current medicine in the hope that things may improve. But I’m glad to have been and checked (he seemed to think it was reasonable to have done so, too). It’s not something I enjoy doing (I usually take someone with me because I find it that difficult, but owing to Reasons that wasn’t possible on this occasion) so I feel I can give myself credit for having done it.

  1. My sister, niece and nephew were down staying locally for a few days at the beginning of the week. It was extremely splendid to see them!
  2. I have got the first draft of my latest article for Jane Austen’s Regency World finished this week – it’s about men who live off other people’s money…
  3. Lovely Partner, who has been feeling unwell ever since we came back from Berlin at the beginning of the month, is finally feeling a bit better, which is good news.
  4. My (lesbian regency) novella, Loving My Lady, is due to be published by eXcessica next month, and the cover design has just been completed! It’s gorgeous – look! (I’m just checking the cover artist’s details and will link to her when possible.)cover2
  5. I’ve  finished the first draft of one of the novellas I’ve been writing over the last month or so. I’m having second thoughts about one of them – I’d envisaged a set of three – but it’s good to have one finished.
  6.  Splendid Son and I went to see a friend of mine with two small boys. We had a great time, and he was ever so good with the little ones!
